Exploring Greenwood

In the winter months, it can be tempting to stay inside and not come out until the temperatures rise. But if you live in apartments in Greenwood, Indiana like Flats at Stones Crossing, then you’ll be missing out if you opt to stay in. There are plenty of local destinations to help draw you out and give you plenty of fun things to do!

#1: Southside Art League, Inc.

This is a great artistic hub for Greenwood and has a rich history. It was officially organized in 1964 and is housed in two historic buildings that include an office, gallery, and classroom. The gallery features local artists and their works. The classroom is open to both a variety of classes and for occasional workshops presented by guests. Classes include watercolors, oil painting, open studio mentoring, beginner children’s art classes, and photography. This is the ideal place to release your inner artist or discover an artwork to take home.

#2: Mallow Run Winery

Take some time to stop at this local winery for daily wine tastings. They have a robust list of offerings, and this winter season includes some seasonal exclusives! You can try Winter White or Reindeer Red and enjoy the beautiful and cozy interiors at this historic family farm. The tasting room is actually a converted barn loft, complete with “hand-hewn beams.” And if you want to relax before you sip some wine, one of their repeat events is “Studio You Yoga & Wine.”

#3: Regal Greenwood

Sometimes the best events are the classics, like a visit to the local movie theater. At Regal Greenwood, you can catch all the latest movies hitting the big screen and pick up some snacking favorites while you’re at it, like warm, buttery popcorn. They also have theaters to create different viewing experiences. You can select a screening with recliner seating, reserved seating, and/or stadium seating. You can also enjoy 2D or 3D screenings for select films.

#4: Greenwood Community Center

The Greenwood Community Center is a recently-renovated facility that offers a wide range of activities and services that you can enjoy. Adults can visit the updated gym area or a variety of workout classes, and children can enjoy Kid City, an updated two-story space designed exclusively for children of all ages and with a focus on STEAM activities and related fun. If you’re looking for some more open space, you can visit the basketball courts, which can also be used for volleyball and pickleball. You can either opt for an annual membership or spend a few dollars for day passes ($6 for adults, and $5 for children ages 1-15).

#5: Old Town Greenwood

If you’re looking for a full-day experience, then you should visit Old Town Greenwood where you can take in a bit of everything at a historic location. Old Town Greenwood refers to the original main street of Greenwood that is now being preserved and restored by a nonprofit organization. The downtown area now boasts a variety of destinations, like local breweries/bars, coffee shops/other treats, restaurants, shops, and more. Community events are also hosted here. This winter includes the Old Town Christmas Lights Competition, so you can also stop by to see festive light displays!
